Atishi Accuses BJP of Anti-Dalit Stance After Removal of Iconic Photos from CM Office

 


In a bold accusation, former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has displayed an anti-Dalit stance by removing the photos of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh from the Chief Minister's office in Delhi.

Atishi stated, “The BJP’s anti-Dalit mindset is well-known to all. Today, there is evidence of it. Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister, had ensured that the photos of Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh were displayed in every government office. However, after the BJP assumed power, these photos were removed from the CM office. This act shows that the BJP is a party with an anti-Dalit and anti-Sikh mentality.”

The BJP's decision to replace these historic and revered images with a photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sparked strong reactions across the political spectrum. Critics argue that this move undermines the sacrifices of India's iconic freedom fighters and diminishes their role in the nation's history.

This incident has ignited a new wave of protests and condemnation, with many calling the removal of the photos a deep disrespect to the legacies of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh, who played pivotal roles in shaping India’s freedom struggle and social justice movements.

Iraqi Refugee Known for Quran Burnings Shot Dead in Sweden

Salwan Momika, a 38-year-old Iraqi refugee infamous for publicly burning copies of the Quran, was fatally shot during a livestream at his home in Södertälje, near Stockholm, late Wednesday.  Five suspects have been detained, with the motive still under investigation. Momika’s Quran burnings in 2023 sparked global outrage, protests, and attacks on Swedish embassies, prompting Sweden to raise its terror alert level.  Originally from Iraq, Momika fled to Germany in 2017, later moving to Sweden in 2018.  His residency was revoked in 2023 due to false asylum claims, but deportation was stalled over safety concerns. He was set to face trial for hate speech and incitement, but the case has been postponed following his death.  The incident reignites debates on free speech, religious sensitivity, and refugee integration.
