LeBron James Makes History as First Player to Score 50,000 Career Points
LeBron James has etched his name in NBA history once again, becoming the first player ever to score 50,000 career points.
The 40-year-old Los Angeles Lakers superstar reached this monumental milestone during a thrilling game against the New Orleans Pelicans on March 4, 2025, at Crypto.com Arena.
James hit a three-pointer in the first quarter, sending the home crowd into a frenzy as he surpassed the 50,000-point mark.
This latest achievement comes just over a year after he passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's all-time regular-season scoring record in February 2023, and almost eight years after breaking Michael Jordan's playoff scoring record in 2017.
As the NBA's all-time leading scorer, James continues to rewrite the record books, further solidifying his place among the game's greatest players.
His 50,000-point achievement also comes on the heels of his historic performances at age 40. Last month, he became the first player to record multiple 40+ point games at age 40 or older—a feat only Michael Jordan had previously accomplished when he scored 40 points at age 40 in 2003.
This historic moment coincides with a new chapter for the Lakers, following the recent trade for 25-year-old Luka Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks.
Dončić's arrival has seemingly rejuvenated LeBron, who has elevated his game even further. James averaged 29.3 points and 10.5 rebounds in February, an increase from his 2024/25 season averages.
Despite his age, LeBron's dedication, skill, and longevity continue to shine as he keeps breaking barriers. After the game, James reflected on his remarkable journey, saying, “This game is bigger than me. Reaching 50,000 points is humbling, and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my teammates, coaches, and everyone who has been with me along the way.”
With LeBron’s career still going strong, the question now becomes: How many more records will he break before he’s done? It’s clear that the King’s reign is far from over, and his legacy continues to grow as he defies expectations and dominates the NBA at an age when most players have long since retired.
